The AI Edition Finder Agent helps Software Asset Management teams address missing Microsoft SQL Server edition information. It analyzes available software, infrastructure, CMDB, and environment data to recommend the most likely edition, together with a confidence level and supporting details.
The recommendation is presented to a Software Asset Manager or administrator for review and approval before it is used to complete the software record.

Discovery data may not always include the edition of Microsoft SQL Server. This can happen when the required information is unavailable, incomplete, or not collected during discovery.
Without edition information, SAM Pro may not have all the data required to support software reconciliation and license-position analysis. Software Asset Management teams may then need to work with discovery, CMDB, database, and infrastructure teams to investigate the missing information, increasing implementation effort and delaying time to value.
The Solution
The AI Edition Finder Agent analyzes approximately 22 available data points across software installations, related components, infrastructure characteristics, CMDB relationships, and environment context.
It combines these data points to recommend the most likely Microsoft SQL Server edition and provides a High, Medium, or Low confidence level. The agent also presents the information that contributed to the recommendation, helping reviewers understand how the result was determined.
When the available information is insufficient or inconsistent, the agent returns Unable to Determine rather than creating an unsupported recommendation.
How It Works
The agent can run on demand or on a scheduled basis.

This release supports edition recommendations for Microsoft SQL Server only. Other software products and publishers are not supported in the current release.

The agent analyzes approximately 22+ software, infrastructure, CMDB, and environmental signals to estimate the most likely SQL Server edition. It evaluates signals such as installed SQL components, host memory and processor capacity, discovery model names, operating-system class, business application relationships, server roles, environment indicators, and related SQL installations.
Based on the available evidence, the agent generates an explainable edition recommendation with a High, Medium, or Low confidence level. Where the evidence is insufficient, ambiguous, or conflicting, the agent returns Unable to Determine instead of generating an unsupported recommendation.
Each recommendation is presented to a SAM manager or administrator for review and approval before the edition information is applied.
