Standalone Application
ITOM URL Discovery is a ServiceNow application that gives IT administrators visibility into URLs accessed across the organization through a browser extension. Surfaced inside the Discovery Admin Workspace, it enables organizations to monitor web activity, measure usage metrics, and feed discovered URLs into downstream products like Service Mapping and Synthetic Monitoring.
The app supports two complementary monitoring modes:
- Targeted URL Discovery — tracks curated URLs with deep metrics including total usage time, last accessed timestamps, and per-device access details.
- Broad URL Discovery — passively captures all user-visited URLs and page hit counts across the organization.
Dual discovery modes
- Choose between Broad (all URLs) and Targeted (curated list) monitoring, or run both simultaneously.
URL configuration management
- Add, edit, and remove URLs or wildcard patterns via an intuitive modal interface within the Discovery Admin Workspace Settings page.
Rich Insights dashboard
- Visual analytics including a top-5 most-visited URLs bar chart, a URLs-by-category donut chart, and an "All Visited URLs" metric card (when Broad mode is enabled).
Domain Drill-Down Pages
- Per-URL detail views showing visits over time (line chart) and a per-device breakdown including DeviceID, UserID, visit count, last accessed, and total usage.
Promote Broad URLs to Targeted
- Bulk-select passively discovered URLs and promote them to Targeted discovery directly from the Insights page or domain drill-down.
Flexible Filtering & Sorting
- Column-level filtering with operator support (contains, starts with, on, etc.) and Sort by / Group by controls on all list views.
Compliance Awareness
- Built-in compliance warning on Broad URL Discovery, reminding administrators to review company policies (including EU compliance) before enabling full URL capture.

URL Discovery Settings page
- Configure Targeted and Broad URL monitoring from a new section on the Settings page in the Discovery Admin Workspace. The Broad URL Discovery toggle is off by default and includes an EU compliance advisory. The Targeted URL Discovery list supports adding and editing URLs with fields for URL patterns, category, product, publisher, and application service. All required fields include inline validation.
URL Discovery Insights tile
- Access the URL Discovery Insights page from a new tile on the Insights page in Discovery Admin Workspace. The tile appears only when the ITOM URL Discovery (sn_itom_url_disc) plugin is installed.
URL Discovery Insights page
- View charts and lists for monitored URLs showing data from the last 24 hours, retained for up to 30 days. The Targeted URLs visited tab is always shown. The Other URLs visited tab and its charts appear only when Broad mode is enabled.
Domain drill-down pages
- Drill down into per-URL detail views for Targeted and Broad discovery modes. Targeted URL pages show visit trends over time and per-device details including device ID, user ID, visit count, last accessed date, and total usage. Broad URL pages show visit trends over 30 days and per-device details including device ID, user ID, and visit count. Both pages include an option to add URLs to Targeted discovery directly from the page.
Notes:
- Data is removed after 30 days if a URL is deleted or if the discovery type is changed.
- The ACC (Agent Client Collector) agent must be installed on devices to provide URL access data.
