Overview
The WIN FHIR Directory gives organizations a trusted way to find and maintain the connections they depend on to exchange information.
Built on ServiceNow HCLS, it brings endpoint registration, technical validation, administrator attestation, access controls, and lifecycle management into a shared governance process. Participating organizations maintain ownership of their endpoint information while contributing to an authoritative directory that can be used across the network.
The FHIR Directory also helps keep that information current over time. When material endpoint information changes, validation and attestation begin again rather than allowing previously approved information to remain trusted without review.
The FHIR Directory does not exchange clinical data or replace existing interoperability infrastructure. Instead, it provides trusted connectivity information that other WIN capabilities can use to support workflows across participating organizations. boundaries.
Who Benefits
-
Regional and multiorganization networks that need a shared, governed source of FHIR endpoint information across participating organizations.
-
Interoperability teams responsible for establishing and maintaining reliable connections across organizations.
-
Participating organizations and endpoint administrators responsible for keeping their connectivity information accurate and current.
Key Capabilities
-
Maintain an authoritative endpoint registry: Manage endpoint URLs, vendors, FHIR versions, organizational ownership, lifecycle status, and related information in one governed application.
-
Verify endpoint information before activation: Test endpoint reachability and retrieve and parse CapabilityStatements before an endpoint becomes trusted.
-
Govern endpoint approval: Route successfully validated endpoints through administrator approval before they are activated and published.
-
Keep endpoint information current: Restart validation and attestation when material information changes.
-
Preserve organization ownership: Allow endpoint managers to maintain their organization’s records while supporting a shared multi-organization directory.
-
Synchronize and Audit: Publish approved endpoints to a WIN-compliant directory backend and record synchronization activity for auditability.
How It Fits Within WIN
The WIN FHIR Directory provides the trusted connectivity foundation other WIN products and Capability Packages use when workflows require information or coordination across participating organizations.
- FHIR Endpoint Registry: manage endpoint records (name, base URL, vendor, FHIR version, organization)
- Automated endpoint validation: asynchronous metadata retrieval and CapabilityStatement parsing sets endpoint status
- Capability storage: parsed CapabilityStatement stored per endpoint
- Attestation workflow: administrator review task created on validation; approval activates the endpoint
- Re-attestation on material change; organization-scoped endpoint management; sync of approved endpoints to the WIN Directory backend
