Strategic Portfolio Management - Portfolio Planning is an intuitive planning workspace to prioritize, roadmap, and track work. Portfolio Planning provides a planning workspace for traditional portfolio planning to prioritize demands and projects and enables visualizing them on the roadmap to track their progress.

Prioritization
- Review the work pipeline using portfolio prioritization before you prioritize work items to build roadmaps
- Analyze the backlog for your organization from a consolidated view
- Group, sort, and stack-rank the planning item from the List view
- Visualize the alignment of work to the entities of other lens hierarchies from the Hierarchy view
- Rank the work items based on numeric and choice-type planning item attributes in descending or ascending order
- Export planning items data of the portfolio plan to Excel/CSV from the Prioritization grid
- Prioritize, roadmap and score programs (pm_program) in a portfolio plan
Roadmap
- View the roadmap of your portfolio in the timeline or a Kanban layout
- Personalize the roadmap by grouping and coloring the bars to communicate the plan to various stakeholders
- Create your private or shared views for your filter and column display preferences
Capacity Planning
- Configure attributes to be used for capacity planning using the planning attributes
- Generate capacity for the teams and different attribute combinations
- Add high-level effort estimates on planning items to create the capacity plans
- Define the set of resources on which you want to create capacity plans
- View the capacity plan by attributes and teams along with the deficit/surplus in one view
Financial planning
- View rolled-up financial costs and benefits data of planning items in the Portfolio plan 'Financials' tab to integrate financial insights into your planning and improve decision-making
- Track the latest forecast, actuals and remaining estimates against the last approved budget for individual planning items and portfolio
- Ability to plan, re-forecast the planned costs, and track actual costs of labor and non-labor cost types for demands and projects
- Capture financial baselines manually or automatically through the scheduler and compare the data between baselines to analyze changes in financial costs over the project execution
- As a portfolio manager, approve budget top down or bottom up to planning items like Demands, Projects by expense type or cost type
- As a planning item owner, compare the latest costs with the approved budget in a detailed view to identify budget over
Scenario Planning
- Create multiple scenarios of the changes to your portfolio plan in a simulation mode to try out different combination of prioritized items and their timelines
- Define portfolio budget as the target and do cost-benefit analysis by trying out different budget combination for the work items
- Compare multiple scenarios to analyze the differences in budget, benefits and trade off decisions made between scenarios and determine the best plan
- Approve the optimal scenario to revise the states, budget and approved dates of live portfolio plan ensuring the creation of an optimal portfolio plan
- View approved scenarios in read only mode for future reference
Collaboration
- Collaborate with stakeholders to plan better by sharing the plan with individuals or a group and converse with them within the plan
Free-form Roadmaps
- Build free-form roadmaps on projects and demands
- Diagnostics for admin persona to identify and fix data discrepancies and validate prerequisite data setup to perform portfolio planning
Dashboards
- Use dashboards to view key data and metrics, enabling you to monitor performance, track progress, and make informed decisions related to planning and execution.
- Roadmaps now support admin-defined custom colour themes for better visual alignment with organisational standards.
- Portfolio plans shared with the Viewer setting are now viewable regardless of the user’s read/write access to the associated work.
Note: Record pages remain read/write or read-only based on the user’s permissions. - SPW Lists have been uplifted to use the ServiceNow presentation list component for a more consistent user experience.
- Guided setup is now available to SPW admins (apw_admin role). Previously, only system admins could access this functionality.
- Added the sn_value_stream.value_stream_admin role, which includes the value_stream_user role. This new role provides create, write, and delete access to the cmn_value_stream_category table.
- Added capability for the sn_align_core.apw_admin role to update app-specific system properties in app-alignment-planner-core.
