With MCP for Strategic Portfolio Management, strategy/PMO leaders, portfolio managers, and project managers can access strategic insights, portfolio insights, project insights, status reports, and risk information directly in their AI client and planning workflows — without opening the ServiceNow instance.
The application brings live Strategic Portfolio Management data — goals, portfolio plans, and projects — and Now Assist AI skills into any MCP-compatible AI client using natural language.
Goals:
- Get Goals — Retrieve goals filtered by owner, timeline, or status into your AI client for downstream reasoning.
- Generate Goal Insights — Surface goal health, a summary of the goal and its targets, aligned work that needs attention, and recommendations for overcoming risks — answering "What is the state of this OKR and what should I do about it?" in a single query.
Portfolio Plans:
- Get Portfolio Plans — Retrieve portfolio plans with flexible filtering, ready for AI summarization or cross-referencing.
- Generate Portfolio Insights — Surface at-risk projects, delayed start and end dates, and misalignments across a portfolio plan in natural language for executive conversations.
Project Management:
- Get Projects — Retrieve projects filtered by owner, timeline, or status into your AI client for downstream reasoning.
- Generate Project Insights — Detect risks, analyze status trajectory, and surface recommendations for a single project — the same insights available in Strategic Planning Workspace, now accessible from your AI client.
- Identify Project Risks — Scan projects for risks, issues, dependencies, assumptions, and changes, and save them to the ServiceNow risk table as AI draft entries for human review, approval, or rejection before they are committed.
- Get AI Status Report — Generate on-demand Red, Amber, and Green (RAG) status across resources, cost, schedule, and scope from live project data using AI.

- Connect any MCP-compatible AI assistant to your ServiceNow instance to give strategy and PMO leaders, portfolio managers, and project managers direct access to live SPM data through natural language prompts. Access Strategic Portfolio Management data and Now Assist AI skills as MCP tools, enabling LLM agents to query and process goals, portfolio plans, and projects. The following tools are available in this release:

- Get Goals — Retrieves goals filtered by status, owner, or other criteria.
- Generate Goal Insights — Generates AI-powered insights for goals and targets.
- Get Portfolio Plans — Retrieves portfolio plans filtered by owner, timeline, or other criteria.
- Generate Portfolio Insights — Generates portfolio insights, including at-risk planning items, delayed starts and ends, and dependencies to highlight potential bottlenecks.
- Get Projects — Retrieves projects filtered by owner, status, state, or other criteria.
- Generate Project Insights — Detects project risks, analyzes status trajectory, and provides recommendations to mitigate delays.
- Get AI Status Report — Generates a Red, Amber, Green (RAG) status report for a project across resources, cost, schedule, and scope.
- Identify Project Risks — Detects AI-identified RIDAC risks and saves them to the risk table as AI drafts.
