CMDB Governance Hub is a governance framework designed to improve the quality, reliability, and trustworthiness of CMDB data on the ServiceNow platform.
Modern IT operations rely heavily on Configuration Management Database (CMDB) data to power incident management, change management, service mapping, automation, and emerging AI-driven capabilities. However, maintaining accurate and complete CMDB data is challenging due to the scale of infrastructure, multiple data sources, and continuous changes in IT environments.
CMDB Governance Hub introduces a policy-driven governance model that continuously evaluates Configuration Items (CIs) against configurable governance rules. The application helps organizations identify data quality gaps, enforce CMDB standards, and measure the health of their configuration data.
With automated policy evaluation, governance scoring, and actionable insights, CMDB Governance Hub enables organizations to establish a trusted CMDB foundation that supports reliable operations and intelligent decision-making.
Key capabilities include:
-
Policy-based governance for CMDB data
-
Automated evaluation of Configuration Items
-
Field and relationship validation rules
-
Governance scoring for Configuration Items
-
Visibility into policy violations and compliance
-
Reporting and dashboards for CMDB health monitoring
By enforcing consistent governance standards, CMDB Governance Hub helps organizations increase CMDB accuracy, reduce operational risk, and prepare their platform data for AI-driven operations.
Policy-Based Governance Define governance policies with flexible conditions to validate CMDB data, enforcing standards such as required attributes, relationship rules, lifecycle validation, and CI data integrity.
Automated Policy Evaluation Evaluate Configuration Items against defined governance policies on demand, on a schedule, or during governance reviews — without manual intervention.
CI Governance Scoring Assign weights or ratings to individual policy conditions to generate a CI Governance Score, helping identify high-risk CIs, data quality gaps, and compliance issues across the CMDB.
Policy Condition Framework Build granular governance checks using configurable conditions including field validation, relationship validation, CI lifecycle checks, data completeness checks, and custom evaluation logic.
CI Relationship Governance Validate CI relationships to ensure accurate service mapping and dependency integrity within the CMDB.
Governance Dashboards & Reports Built-in dashboards and reports provide visibility into policy compliance rates, CI governance scores, policy violations, and governance trends over time.
Secure & Scalable Architecture Policy evaluations respect platform security and access controls using native ServiceNow secure query methods. Designed to handle large CMDB environments with thousands to millions of CIs.

Minimum Platform Version
- ServiceNow Release: Xanadu or later
- Recommended: Xanadu or later for optimal performance
Mobile Agent Version Compatibility
Not compatible with ServiceNow Agent mobile app and NowMobile app.
Required Plugins
- Configuration Management Database (CMDB) — must be installed and active
Optional Plugins (recommended for full functionality)
- IT Service Management (ITSM) — for service-aware governance
- Performance Analytics — for advanced dashboards and governance trend reporting
CMDB Prerequisites
- A configured and populated CMDB is required.
- Configuration Items must exist in standard CMDB tables (e.g., cmdb_ci, cmdb_ci_service, cmdb_ci_server, or other extended CI classes).
- CI relationships should be managed via the cmdb_rel_ci table.
