AutomationEdge Automation Connector links your ServiceNow instance to the AutomationEdge automation platform, so that requests and incidents raised and approved in ServiceNow are fulfilled automatically in the systems where the work actually happens.
ServiceNow remains the system of record. Intake, approvals, assignment and audit stay in your existing workflows. When a request reaches the fulfilment stage, the connector hands it to AutomationEdge, which executes the task across target systems — Active Directory, Microsoft 365 and Exchange, SAP, Oracle and SQL databases, Citrix and VMware, ITSM and HRMS applications, mainframe and in-house legacy systems — and returns the outcome, logs and artifacts to the originating ServiceNow record. The ticket closes with a complete, auditable trail.
Common fulfilment tasks include password reset and account unlock, user onboarding and offboarding, group and distribution-list membership, application and license provisioning, shared-folder and mailbox access, mailbox quota changes, VM and server operations, and scheduled or on-demand data tasks.
Configuration is table-driven. Administrators map ServiceNow catalog items, request item variables and incident categories to AutomationEdge workflows through the connector’s configuration tables, using a Connection & Credential Alias for authentication. No scripting is required for standard mappings, and no changes are made to ServiceNow’s own tables outside the application scope.
The connector supports both rule-based and AI-assisted execution. Where a request requires interpretation — free-text descriptions, unstructured attachments, variable parameters — AutomationEdge resolves the parameters before executing, and returns the reasoning along with the result so that fulfilment stays reviewable. Execution records can feed your existing automation governance and reporting processes.

AutomationEdge Automation Connector 1.0.0 – First release
- Starts AutomationEdge workflows automatically from incidents, problems, changes and other tasks, or when a catalog item is ordered.
- Writes the results back to the original record or request.
- Set up without code: choose the automationedge workflows, when they run and what information they receive.
- Tracks every run, retries temporary failures, and waits while AutomationEdge is unavailable.
- Hands failed work to a team as a ServiceNow task and notifies them by e-mail.
- Protects access with roles and keeps passwords and sensitive values hidden; no data is shared with the vendor.
- Licensed AutomationEdge platform instance (cloud or on-premise), version 8.2.0 or later
- Network connectivity from the ServiceNow instance to the AutomationEdge platform endpoint, or a MID Server where the platform is on-premise behind a firewall
- Integration user with a dedicated role provisioned by the application; admin is not required
- ServiceNow Zurich or later, with Flow Designer active.
- No IntegrationHub subscription or other paid plugin is required.
- AutomationEdge: a licensed AutomationEdge server with its REST API (/aeengine/rest), reachable from the ServiceNow instance over HTTPS. Servers before and from version 8.0.4 are supported; set the property x_aetp_aeconn.ae.server.before_8_0_4 to match.
- An AutomationEdge account for each connection: user name and password (Basic), or client ID and client secret (OAuth2 client credentials).
- Inbound access: AutomationEdge must be able to reach the instance’s REST API over HTTPS to report results, signed in as a ServiceNow integration user that holds only the roles x_aetp_aeconn.integration and snc_platform_rest_api_access. AutomationEdge calls PATCH /api/x_aetp_aeconn/response/execution/{execution_id}.
- Handover: the members of a handover group work the handover Task records with their own access to tasks (normally the itil role); AE Connect adds no access rule on the Task table.
- The AutoationEdge workflows to automate must exist on the AutomationEdge server to use through this application.
